Legendary Los Angeles Lakers head coach Pat Riley is set to have his own statue.

Last season the LA Lakers announced they had begun work to immortalize former head coach Pat Riley, the current president of the Miami Heat.

Riley led the ‘Showtime Lakers‘ to championship success in the 1980s, forging his name in the NBA history books.

Now with the NBA 2025-26 schedule confirmed, the Lakers have provided an update on their plans.

Date set for Pat Riley statue

A date has now been set for the LA Lakers to unveil their statue in tribute to Pat Riley.

The Lakers have announced the statue will be unveiled on February 22, 2026.

The date is significant, and perfectly timed. The Lakers will host the visiting Boston Celtics the same day.

The Celtics were the Lakers’ main rivals through the ‘Showtime’ era, and it is fitting that they will be the opponents when the statue for Riley is presented.

The Miami Heat do not have a game on the same day, removing any conflict of interest which could prevent Riley from attending.

Riley won four titles with the Lakers, in 1982, 1985, 1987, and 1988. He also won a fifth coaching the Miami Heat in 2006.

Pat Riley’s statue will join a host of legendary figures from the team’s past who have been honored in the same way.

He joins Elgin Baylor, Kareem Abdul-jabbar, Magic Johnson, Jerry West, Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant.

The Lakers also have a statue of much-loved former announcer Chick Hearn.
