Milwaukee Bucks were open to Jonathan Kuminga sign-and-trade, deal with Warriors deal collapsed for one reason

The Warriors are trying to sign Kuminga for $45 million across two seasons. But the young star has made his demands clear to them.

One NBA insider thinks Kuminga is worth $125 million, far more than what the Warriors are willing to pay him.

But Mike Dunleavy Jr.’s insistence on trying to maximize his return cost him the chance to wrap up this situation via a sign-and-trade to the Milwaukee Bucks.

Golden State Warriors demanded Bobby Portis from Milwaukee Bucks

According to Brett Siegel of Clutch Points, the Milwaukee Bucks were one of the teams that showed interest in landing Jonathan Kuminga.

However, the Golden State Warriors overplayed their hand, demanding Bobby Portis in a sign-and-trade. Understandably, the Bucks refused to include Portis in negotiations, leading to talks ending.

“It is also worth mentioning that the Milwaukee Bucks were another team that kicked around the idea of pursuing Kuminga.

“If they were to do so, the Warriors made it known they would want Bobby Portis in a sign-and-trade scenario, which is something Milwaukee wasn’t willing to do.”

The Warriors have had interest in Portis for quite some time. But to try and land him in a deal for a relatively unproven player is too much of an ask.

Jonathan Kuminga is right to be frustrated with current situation

The Golden State Warriors have made no earnest progress in their talks with Jonathan Kuminga. Both sides are sticking to their guns.

In all honesty, it’s hard to look at the Warriors’ current situation and feel sorry for them. Jonathan Kuminga is a player who has been nothing but the utmost professional for them.

Now, as he looks for bigger opportunities that the Warriors can’t provide, they refuse to cooperate with him. Instead, the Warriors focused more on squeezing the last bit of value out of him.

The cynical NBA fan would say that franchises don’t owe players anything. And on paper, that is absolutely true. But NBA players take note of how franchises treat players on their way out.

This is far from a good look for the Warriors. Hopefully, Kuminga and his side can get the best out of his current situation and move on from the Warriors soon.
