NBA fans criticize LeBron James for a cryptic Instagram post with former Los Angeles Lakers teammate Anthony Davis.
LeBron James and Anthony Davis both posted a quote to their Instagram stories, which reads, “Becoming the best version of yourself comes with a lot of goodbyes”.
They were teammates with the Lakers for six seasons before Davis was included in the ground-breaking Luka Doncic trade with the Dallas Mavericks.
The friendship between James and Davis, who won a championship in 2020, has evidently not been fractured by the trade. But NBA fans were quick to criticize James for the post.

The Lakers made clear that Doncic, who recently signed a three-year extension, is now the face of the franchise. The NBA’s all-time leading scorer’s team have reportedly grown tired of James’ “passive-aggressive” jabs at the team.
One fan saw this post as another example of this, as it has naturally caused speculation about James’ future in LA. The fan posted to X, “This is why as soon as the Lakers got Luka they completely switched up on LeBron lol. Imagine having to coddle this 24/7 🤣🤣”.
Another said that the post is for attention, and James is the only superstar in the NBA that would do it. They said, “A lot of y’all called me names when I questioned Bron’s greatness for creating drama and attention.
“Welp, superstars like Luka, Jokic, Giannis and even Steph won’t post anything like this 🙄😅”
James and Davis had a close relationship as teammates. They won a championship and went to another Western Conference Finals together in LA. Some Lakers fans took the post as an indication of their ongoing friendship.
One fan speculated, “They miss playing with each other”. Another was emotional reminiscing on James and AD as Lakers teammates, adding, “Don’t make a grown man cry like this”.
Other fans speculated on what the post could mean. James has been linked with the Mavericks this offseason in a trade that could see him rejoin Davis in Dallas.

Dallas Mavericks inquired with the LA Lakers about LeBron James
According to reports, the Mavericks contacted the Lakers regarding the potential acquisition of James. Dallas lost in the Play-In last season after the controversial Doncic trade. They would like to pair James’ experience with number one pick Cooper Flagg.
While James will most likely start the season as a Laker, the potential of a midseason trade is there. James is a free agent next summer, and if he indicates that he wants to leave LA, the Lakers could look to move him before the trade deadline to avoid letting him walk for nothing.
The Mavericks are short on trade assets. They don’t have valuable draft picks until 2029. Derrick Lively and Max Christie are intriguing young talents, and the latter was a Laker before the Doncic trade, but LA will want a marquee piece in return for James.
The Mavericks have interest in James. However, unless the Lakers are willing to trade back for Davis or bring in Kyrie Irving to reunite with Doncic, expect these conversations to take place next summer.
