EuroBasket is getting closer and teams are sharpening up by arranging a series of friendly games. One in particular stands out.
Both Luka Doncic and Nikola Jokic made their returns to the basketball court in early August, for the first time since the NBA Playoffs.
The superstar duo returned to action respectively for Slovenia and Serbia, playing in international friendly games, ahead of the EuroBasket tournament.
A friendly match in Belgrade scheduled for August 21 is generating a lot of attention, with good reason.
Serbia vs Slovenia excitement
A friendly match has been arranged in the Serbian capital of Belgrade for August 21, that will see Slovenia challenge the hosts.
This game will pit Serbia’s superstar Nikola Jokic up against Slovenian icon Luka Doncic.
Serbian basketball president Nebojsa Covic tells national outlet Sport that they are trying to carefully manage the intense demand for tickets.
Covic said: “I think the additional contingent of tickets will be released on August 17 or 18. Don’t take my word for it, I think we will announce it today, Wednesday or Thursday.
“There are more tickets, of course, but it has to be done very carefully, because if we had the opportunity to sell 100 thousand, we would sell 100 thousand tickets. These are also the funds that we need for the functioning of the Federation.”
The capacity of the stadium is just over 18,000, meaning many trying to land tickets will end up disappointed.
Jokic and Doncic showdown likely
Luka Doncic’s minutes have been measured carefully so far. He played just one of Slovenia’s two games against Germany.
Speaking ahead of two games against Lithuania and Latvia this weekend, Slovenia’s coach said Doncic would likely only play in one.
But by August 21, EuroBasket will be just days away, and a showdown against Nikola Jokic is the perfect warm-up, and vice-versa.
